Rediscover Your Authentic Self

Through the study of the ancient Vedic texts and an understanding and practice of ancestral yoga -  Jnana Yoga or the yoga of study, Karma Yoga or the yoga of selfless service, Raja Yoga or the yoga of meditation, and Bhakti  Yoga or the yoga of devotion - we come to realize different truths about the world around us and about our essence nature.

Although learning to teach asana classes is an important part of being a yoga teacher, we strive and hope for you to make a shift in consciousness, perhaps re-assessing old habits or value systems, and live your daily life with more equanimity.

OVERVIEW

Course Outline

This training is designed to activate the inner healer within you and cultivate the wisdom that leads to purpose and passion. Each day is layered with practices focused on setting the bases for a strong foundation in Self-care and equanimity through Ayurvedic routines, and in primary asanas, their alignments, modifications, and adjustments, weight distribution and baring, to help you build healthy movement habits as a yoga teacher.

Our teachings are based on the ancient Vedic  texts of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika to discover both yogic routine and philosophical path to self-inquiry.

Rooted in the belief that every being has a purpose and voice to share, this training inspires your unique gifts to be expressed authentically.

Whether you are beginning your yoga journey or are an advanced asana practitioner searching to expand your knowledge, this yoga teacher training will deepen your yoga practice, detox your body and mind, and bring you confidence and inspiration to become a joyful and knowledgeable yoga teacher.

FLUIDITY

Vinyasa Yoga

The Sanskrit word ‘Vinyasa’ translates as “to place in a special way”, and Vinyasa Yog is thus characterized by fluidly stringing asana postures together, with each movement synchronized with the breath. The style is vigorous and movement-intensive based on a continuous flow from one asana to the next, and offers a wide variety of postures which means that, unlike the rigidity of Ashtanga yoga sequences, no two Vinyasa classes are ever alike. Faster-paced than Hatha yoga, Vinyasa yoga classes involve progressively increasing body heat -and sweat- and building strength. It teaches us to cultivate an awareness that links each action to the next, both on the mat and in our lives.

During this training, you will learn Vinyasa yoga methods to assess the needs of individual students or groups, and then build a complementary, step by step practice to meet those needs. In addition to the postures you will learn during Hatha yoga classes (many of which transpose into Vinyasa), you will practice Ashtanga sun salutations A & B, plank pose, four-limbed staff pose, cat-cow stretches, side plank, cobra, grasshopper, as well as many other and more advanced asanas such as arm balances, headstands, inversions, and handstands techniques.

STATIC HOLDS

Hatha Yoga

The Sanskrit word ‘Hatha’ means force and alludes to a system of physical techniques comprised of asanas, pranayama, kriyas, mudras, and meditation. As such, Hatha yoga is actually an umbrella term for most types of yoga teaching physical postures, meaning nearly every yoga style is Hatha yoga. With ‘Ha’ meaning the sun and ‘tha’ the moon, this practice aims to balance these two energies to prepare the body for deeper spiritual practices like meditation. As ancient asanas were not merely postures but instead mudras, they were intended to seal and channel prana within the body.

Hatha yoga as a style is a relatively gentle and slow practice characterized by longer static posture holds than most other styles. In spite of this however, practice can still be physically and mentally challenging. Classes will typically start with a gentle warm-up and then progress to more physically challenging postures.

GRAVITY

Yin Yoga

While the majority of yoga styles deriving from Hatha Yoga are known as "yang" styles for their vigorous and  flow-based approach to movement that mainly targets muscles, there is another, equally important and often neglected style that is opposite: yin yoga - where we focus on deep connective tissues, like the fascia, ligaments, joints, and bones, and on releasing tension, tightness, on relaxing body, breath, and on exploring stillness.

Yin Yoga is a slow and gentle practice where you're holding postures for 3-5 or more minutes, stretching less-often used tissues, finding comfort in your edge and turning inward, tuning into your breath and your thoughts. Props? Yes, please! Bolsters, blankets, blocks and eye pillows support practitioners restricted in certain movements, and allow for a more meditative practice.

Yin Yoga offers various opportunities for deepening one's practice. From physical stretching to quieting the mind, these can support sitting in meditation practice for longer periods of time.

INTIMACY

Tantra Yoga

Tantra yoga originates from a worship of the Hindu deities that represent the dynamic and static principles of the universe: Shakti (dynamic, creative, feminine) and Shiva (static, destructive, masculine). In Tantra yoga, practitioners seek to comprehend the continual play between these principles and study the universe through the human microcosm, focusing on the purification and cultivation of prana to awaken the cosmic energy that is present in the human body and allowing it to ascend through the chakras to resolve duality into unity.

The Tantra yoga component of this training weaves together many practices including Karma, Bhakti, Raja, mantras, chakras and bandha energy locks to develop your bodies’ subtle energies, working to bring the spiritual and material worlds into one. Through the exploration of these energies, your life’s purpose and connection with others can be understood in a new dimension.

Tantra yoga is about intimacy, which can either mean with a partner physically or by yourself with your own breath, thoughts, and aspirations. Whether practiced alone to get in touch with your own subtle body energies or with a partner to deepen your relationship, Tantra yoga will help you get in tune with your authentic self and break down barriers in a unique and meaningful way.

Moksha Yoga Amazonica Yoga Nidra Yogic Sleep

CONSCIOUS SLEEP

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is a deceptively simple form of meditation and mind-body therapy through which the practitioner rests in savasana (corpse pose) guided through the pancha maya kosha (five layers of self) to reach a deep state of relaxation between waking and sleeping, like the "going-to-sleep" stage, while maintaining consciousness. As the face relaxes and the jaw softens, you are guided through several stages. You first set an intention for the practice, then focus your awareness on breath, bodily sensations, emotions, and thoughts, consciously aware, observing, witnessing.

A proven antidote to anxiety, Yoga Nidra produces a sense of joy and well-being, better sleep, and has the potential to heal psychological wounds. It has been used to treat veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, substance abuse patients, and people suffering from stress.

During the practice we aim to restore our body, senses, and mind to their natural function to feel wholeness and tranquility and to become increasingly and systematically aware of our inner world. Practiced regularly, the elements of yoga nidra make up a sophisticated set of tools that can help practitioners navigate some of life's more challenging moments.

VIBRATIONAL HEALING

Sound Baths

We live in a vibratory universe where everything we sense, feel, see and touch is pure energy, or particles of energy vibrating. As such, the basic principle of sound healing is this concept of resonance of vibratory frequencies of objects, which includes human beings. If we are not resonating with some part of ourselves or our surroundings, we become dissonant and without harmony, which can create illness.

Although healing with sound is believed to date back to ancient Greece, recent research has linked music to a number of health benefits, from boosting immune function and lowering stress levels to improving your body’s functions such as blood pressure, and even breathing. Sound is measured in terms of Frequency of Hertz (Hz), and sound therapy is the application of healing frequencies to the physical and subtle energy fields around the body.

During this training, you will witnessing a few instruments and tools such as tuning forks, singing bowls, ocean drums, koshi bells, but also Om and mantra chanting.

DETOXIFICATION

Ayurvedic Self-Care Daily Routines

Dinacharya is the Ayurvedic practice of having a daily self-care routine, Dina meaning day, sun, or flow, and Charya meaning practice or conduct. Dinacharya rituals were established to maintain the body in harmony with the natural cycles and rhythms of the day, and emphasize the mornings as your most sacred time, as these hours create the foundation for the rest of your day.

Waking up before the sunrise, conducting a body and mind scan, daily intention setting, brushing your teeth, scraping your tongue, oil pulling, neti, nasya, eye washing, body scrubbing or dry brushing, oleation (Abhanga), bathing, meditating, foot massaging, and scalp oils, are all parts of an Ayurvedic self-care routine for that radiant glow inside and out.

Taking the time to nurture yourself each day really is a meditation on self-love which promotes self-respect. Bring your Ayurvedic self-care routine beyond  physical radiance and turn it into a sacred ritual for cultivating true beauty: radiant self-love.

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

One-on-One Mentorship Integration Interviews

Because feedback is essential for growth, as part of your professional development you will receive each week a private mentorship session with an instructor, which will serve both as an opportunity for you to ask questions regarding the training or the avenues available to you as a yoga teacher, while the instructor will compassionately share feedback from his or her observations thus far.

The idea is to assist you in your transformational growth as you progress through the training, and by means of constructive conversation you are assigned clear action items for growth.

APPLICATION IN DAILY LIFE

Experiential Excursions

We believe in not spending the entire duration of the training in a classroom or yoga shala, but instead to go out in nature to experience and put into practice some of the concepts we study. For example our excursion to Tingana eco-reserve is comprised of a silent meditational canoe ride in Amazon wetlands and asana practice in nature, and our Karma Yoga selfless service group project focuses on giving back to the local communities
