PRE-ARRIVAL PREPARATION PHASE
Post-Departure Reflections

Overview

Hello and welcome to Moksha Yoga Amazonica!

We have created this online, asynchronous, and self-paced portion of our 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training to help you with in your journey, both so that you can begin exploring some of the concepts and practices before your arrival to our in-person training in the Amazon jungle of Moyobamba, Peru. We are thrilled to have you here and look forward to reading your words and subsequently meeting you. Kindly spend some time familiarizing yourself with the interface: you can update your profile with pictures, etc., and explore the forum area.

An increasing number of colleges and graduate programs are using Flipped Classroom as an approach to teaching and learning.  And this trend is even reaching into secondary education.  When you think of traditional classrooms, you probably think of coming into class and attending lectures, working in small groups, doing readings. All of these strategies introduced you to the material.  Then you may have had homework assignments or tests where you applied the material.

In a flipped classroom, you encounter the material and new ideas BEFORE you come to class.  Then during your classes you discuss the material, think about how to apply it, and maybe review it.

The value of a flipped classroom is that you learn more material, you learn it better, and you discuss application in more detail.  There are limited hours during a YTT.  It would be nearly impossible to give even an overview of much of what we want you to learn and take away. By reading and listening prior to your YTT you encounter some of the material.  Then during classes, we can review material and expand on it.  Thus, you can encounter more and learn more.

Another advantage is that you learn material better when presented with concepts more than once.  We come to YTT with some common language around and with a basic understanding of the concepts.  Then in classroom discussion you hear things again, thus deepening you learning.  You also engage with the material in more depth.

And a third value to a flipped classroom is that you can engage with peers and teachers in discussions of the application of material.  These discussions make it personal and practical and help “drive home” the wonderful ideas and concepts that you will learn in YTT.

*************

As per Yoga Alliance‘s new standards, our 200hr YTT is comprised of 160 in-person hours in Peru, and 40 hours online. However, because we’ve put a lot of material in our pre- and post-arrival online sections, it could easily take you 100-200+hours to complete all the material. We have noticed in the past students feeling anxious about the online content (i.e. not having completed all the pre-arrival section before actually arriving, stressing about the exam, etc.). This is obviously the opposite of what we wish to achieve. As such, please note that there is no mandatory online lessons or assignments that you must complete before arriving. You can complete this after returning home, and there is no time limit for you to complete this pre-arrival or the post-departure sections. All of the online content is there for you to further learn, so please do enjoy the process and do take it easy! 🙂

If you’d like some direction as to what material is ‘more important’, we suggest you focus on:

Pre-Training Self-Evaluation of Your Morning and Evening Habits

Pre-work for Philosophy Class

The final examination is not a requirement of Yoga Alliance standards, but we created one for you to synthesize some of the most important concepts in yoga. You can re-take the exam as many times as you need, and you can even complete it before the actual time slot allocated for this during the in-person training, which means you would be free to do whatever you want during exam-taking time in Peru.

For Yoga Alliance registration:

1- Complete the assignments in pre-arrival mandatory section + post-departure assignments

2- Register with Yoga Alliance, upload a photo of the 200hr certificate that you will receive in Peru.

3- We receive from Yoga Alliance notification of your registration, we then review your online material, approve your registration with Yoga Alliance, and you will be notified by Yoga Alliance with access to your teacher dashboard and next steps.

We invite you to visit our library here and begin your reading the Bhagavad Gita. You can either download and read them on your ebook reader, tablet, phone or computer, or print paper copies.

Many of us enjoy listening to the audio book of Easwaran’s Bhagavad Gita as the narrator’s voice is soothing and there is no background music like most other audiobook versions. You can find this audio version at the link below.
